Do I
have a Virus?
►
OK so you think you have a virus.
Don't panic! How do you know it's a virus, has the virus checker told
you so or have you assumed this because the computer is not working
properly.
►
If you have been informed by the Virus
guard that it has detected a virus or one is attached to your email, you
will be given interactive instructions to Quarantine and/or delete it.
Just follow the instructions on the screen.
►
If the Browser is giving you problems,
it is probably an Adware or spyware attack and the virus checker will not
remove this. You should use the instructions for Browser problems in the
relevant section of this help.
►
If you have been informed of an attack
by the firewall, see the separate instructions on the firewall
and what to
do in the event of an attack. If in doubt, click the 'deny' button.
►
Before assuming you have a virus, check
that no one has installed any spurious software by clicking on
start/settings/control panel and clicking on the 'add/remove programs'
icon. For a list of programs that should be installed on each machine
check the machine Configurations
appendix.
►
If it is anything else, then use
following instructions to run the virus checker on your local drive. After
running the virus checker, you should always run the Adware software as
well to cleanup the registry.
